Newsletter #2

November was another busy month for the foundation! The Sumba Hotel School welcomed many guests, giving the opportunity for every student to practice and apply their skills.  At one point all five guest houses were occupied, the busiest the students have been since opening of the Hotel last month.
One of the guests we were incredibly fortunate to have stay at the school was Mrs. Petty Elliot.  Mrs. Elliot is a famous Indonesian chef who, along with having written 3 cooking books, travels around the country and world promoting Indonesian Cuisine.  Accompanied by her husband, Chef Elliot visited the foundation for 2 days, during which she gave a fantastic presentation about her life and passion for food, lead the culinary students through 3 meals, and inspired all students in every department to work hard.
Our SHF founder Inge De Lathauwer came for one week with 9 friends to visit and see how the students were progressing as well as celebrate her birthday with her big SHF family. her friends participated and organised a jewellery workshop, tree planting, interviews and photographed our students to make a yearbook. The Restaurant and Bar students practiced their event planning by organizing a party, Housekeeping and Front Office students decorated the restaurant and multifunction room, and the culinary students were busy all day making cakes and delicious food.
Lastly, the Sumba Hospitality Foundation passed a huge milestone in our story by switching off  the public power grid to being powered by our solar panels.  Thanks to Prosol, the company who installed the solar farm and MEP, Inge De Lathauwer was able to personally flip the switches and since November 22, 2016 we have been running completely on solar energy!
The Sumba Hospitality Foundation wishes you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2017! Please keep following us and spreading the word, together we can make a difference for a better future.

Thank you all for your support
